FWIW I managed to discover that alternative entrance with a bit of back and forth without a trailer. I agree that that shouldn't be necessary and it should just pop when driven over (or be hidden)

Sure enough, I was able to get it too! While driving without a trailer, I finally triggered it while going over the curb on the southern side of the road segment in question.

Thought I'd drop in and share that I also got it discovered by unhooking the trailer and driving around the curb.
