Hello,
in 1.55 and before when using "ESC" to set a waypoint for resting/sleeping your truck moved like nothing happend (driving in the speed/gear before pressing esc).
in 1.56 when i do this my truck stands still on the road with engine off while from behind the AI traffic comes with full speed...
But when using quick travel to a garage the engine is still running or when leaving a truck service station.
so this is a bug or wanted behavior?

Re: Gameplay changed using "ESC" (?)
FWIW I don't see this behaviour playing vanilla so suspect it is a mod issue

Re: Gameplay changed using "ESC" (?)
i tough it was the mod i did not had activated in ETS but had still in ATS... but it is still there.
But i find a way so it dont happens (until i find why or whats up).
(when pressing ESC to go too the menu i need to rejoin with "drive" and not ESC again.
then the engine is running and the truck is driving)
(but thread can be closed/flagged with Mod)

Re: Gameplay changed using "ESC" (?)
I can reproduce this issue in a golden vanilla profile but it only happens when the game shows a loading screen when the game resumes after ESC (or M for the map) is pressed. For me this only happens the first time I leave the cabin during a game session (and can also be triggered by the take or end of job panels) and I've never understood why a second loading screen was necessary. Previously this load caused no real issues, because it seemed to only reset the traffic and the driver's view, but now it resets the truck too.
Please would a moderator remove the [MOD] designation from the title as this also affects vanilla and is rather disconcerting in its effect.

Re: Gameplay changed using "ESC" (?)
so because there is still no Bug number given i think they wait for a game.log
here it is.
only 2 mods still running (small barrier mod making the "X" road blocks to small dots and a traffic managing mod (no carpack etc!).
i dont know where all the errors (texture etc) came from (?)

Re: Gameplay changed using "ESC" (?)
I have been experimenting with this a little and although it is too early to draw any conclusions I wonder whether this only happens with External jobs because when I tried to recreate it with a Freight Market job active the loading screen element did not happen.
Anyway, the attached game log from a completely vanilla profile was taken when the game was started with an External job already active. All I did was Resume Delivery from the current job panel, start the engine, turn off the infotainment system, turn on the lights by pressing L twice and roll forward a few meters, take a screenshot, roll forward a little more and then Esc to the desktop. On using Esc to return to the game I saw the loading screen and upon resumption the truck had stopped and the engine was off, at which point I took another screenshot.
