ATS and ETS2, version 1.56.xx, which I installed

#1 Post by Michi10 » 18 Sep 2025 11:18

Hello everyone,

I just returned from vacation and noticed that there's a new update for ATS and ETS2, version 1.56.xx, which I installed. Now, here's my problem:

1. I have no incompatible mods.
2. The game starts up normally.
3. When I select "Continue Game," the loading screen appears as usual.
4. Then I'm in the main menu with options like "Drive," "Route," "Garage," etc.
5. When I click on the steering wheel to enter the truck and continue driving, the game crashes.
6. The game.crash and game.log files don't show any errors. Why is this happening?
There are no error messages, except for two mods (and even without those mods, the problem persists). So, what's going on?

The same thing happens in American Truck Simulator, and I have a profile there without any mods. I really don't understand what's causing this.

No matter what I click, the game just closes and that's it? The reason is unknown. The errors seem to be related to roads and terrain in both games.

Best regards,
Michi10

fwiw I had pretty much the same experience - CTD on clicking 'Drive'. Tried it again, just in case - ctd on clicking 'Drive'. Quick look at the log to see if i could pick the 'bad' mod - nothing obvious.

Where my experience differs is that i did get a good load after removing all mods (about 20, all showing as compatible). So I put a few back - all good. A few more, still good, a few more - until I had them ALL back in, in the same order, but no ctd. And they are definitely the same mods, in definitely the same order because I took photos of the original load order on my phone and I've checked three times because surely there must be a difference - but there isn't. Go figure....
All these years and still on my bum in a puddle, scratching in the dirt....

Just because the mod manager doesn't flag them as incompatible doesn't mean they aren't.

If you actually want help, provide some information:

After a crash, post your complete game.log.txt and crash log to pastebin.com (no account needed) and then post the link here and we'll have a look for you (split the game.log.txt into multiple pastes if it is too big).
If pastebin is not available in your country please use http://rentry.co and post the link to it here please. The page works like pastebin.
The files can be found at "C:\Users\*USERNAME*\Documents\Euro Truck Simulator 2" for a default install.

Here's the information from ATS, since ETS2 is still installed on the older version and I have a cargo delivery that's not yet completed.

Here's the link to the ATS crash log: https://limewire.com/d/aYe3Z#Uei4bD2Zeo and here's the link to the game log:

Now I'm really wondering what's going on with ETS2 and ATS. I can't even play the game anymore; it crashes immediately, whether with mods or without. Whether I use an existing profile or a completely new one, nothing works. The log and crash reports don't show any errors for new profiles. ATS was updated to version 1.56.XX, and ETS2 was rolled back to version 1.55.XX. Verifying and reinstalling ATS also failed. Since two different games are having the same problems, I thought I'd mention it here.

Can you share a game and crash log on 1.56 with no mods?

I can try, but as I said, there are no errors in the game.log or crash report. I can't tell you where the road is or the coordinates, since I can't even get to the point where I would be driving. It seems that the game closed properly.

The problem with the game suddenly crashing has been identified: it was caused by two mods, which I hadn't expected. These mods haven't been updated in a long time, and this highlights a general issue with ETS2: some mods are no longer compatible with the latest version of the game. I will announce the details in the next few days.

Thank you, I had the same suspicion, but unfortunately there was something else going on.
