Wrong skyboxes during rain.
Since the weather update two years ago, I’ve noticed that most of the time it rains, there are just a few clouds and sun. I tested this in both the vanilla and ProMods profiles. In fact, I experience more rain in these conditions than when the sky is full of clouds. I wonder if this was an intentional change, because while this weather is possible in real life, it is quite rare. In ETS2, however, it is pretty frequent. My screenshot shows rainy weather in my game.

Re: Logic behind weather and rain.
Something weird is definitely going on. The first two screenshots show rain with just a few clouds and sun (most common condition for rain); then, when more clouds appeared, the rain stopped completely (see the last two screenshots). I don't think it's a bug, as this has been happening in both games on profiles without mods since the weather update two years ago. It's just a strange design choice. It's not game breaking, just a minor annoyance that should perhaps be fixed or tweaked

Re: Wrong skyboxes during rain.
Even with default rain probability weather still has incorrect skyboxes most of the time during rain/thunder.
1st pic: Clouded sky without rain, very common.
2nd pic: Most common rain condition
3rd pic: This is heavy thunder weather….
4th pic: Rain from my promods profile with Weather_3.4 mod. Normal looking rainy/thunder conditions.
On top of this heavy fog weather that was present sometimes during mornings is completely missing from gameplay but it is still available in photo mode.
Normal rain/thunder with heavy clouded sky is still present in the game, i saw it couple of times but is very rare.
I don’t understand what is happening, if this is not a bug then what was the idea behind implementing this type of immersion breaking weather conditions?

Re: Wrong skyboxes during rain.
I know it feels like this is a minor issue, and maybe it would have been had it been fixed years ago. But as a primarily ATS player this is a pretty big issue to me.
I don't complain about stuff often, but I live in the Midwest, right in the middle of tornado alley, severe weather is a very core part of the American experience here. I started playing ATS shortly before the weather update, and they really hyped up the weather changes to bring more interesting weather, but after the beta the weather has been genuinely awful. Not even the most basic rain storm makes any senses, it's all sun showers, and it is immensely disappointing. It looks so bad that I am probably just going to turn rain off completely.
We have been complaining about this since it was released and it's only gotten worse, the new rain drops on the windshield are pretty mid too. But at least if you had the skyboxes function properly it could feel like actual rain. There is a lot of talk about preparing for seasons far down the road, but if we can't even get the most basic rain correct what are we supposed to expect with seasons?
SCS please fix this. It may have been a low priority issue on your triage like two years ago. But when an issue like this goes on for years, it's not a low priority issue anymore.

I can only recommend Grimes Seasonmods to fix this issue, you can get all seasons, but even if you only like summertime his mod are still far superior in detail and fidelity of the graphics, rain and weather compared to default game. As a bonus old regions like UK and Going East get a total fresh look and feel too.
The Enhanced mods:
Enhanced SCS Traffic
Enhanced SCS Cargo

Re: Wrong skyboxes during rain.
I've really been enjoying the vanilla game in recent years, after all the awesome updates we've received. It's only the weather and the ugly raindrops that are putting me off. This wasn't an issue before the 1.49 update. I remember driving in normal rain and overcast skies, and on those awesome foggy mornings. Then it all disappeared after the update. If this weather is so normal, why don't we ever see sunshowers in blog posts screenshots? It's clearly been broken for years.VirtualTruckTravels wrote: 07 Aug 2026 07:30 I can only recommend Grimes Seasonmods to fix this issue, you can get all seasons, but even if you only like summertime his mod are still far superior in detail and fidelity of the graphics, rain and weather compared to default game. Beacause you should always use the best photos for commercial purpose. SCS do this, I also do this, almost everyone follow this ruleNilderan wrote: 07 Aug 2026 11:30If this weather is so normal, why don't we ever see sunshowers in blog posts screenshots? Re: Wrong skyboxes during rain.
The point is that the high sunshower prevalence is a problem, otherwise SCS would consider it part of those "best photos"

Re: Wrong skyboxes during rain.
Exactly. I don't want sunshowers to disappear completely, I just don't understand why they are the default choice for skybox in rain and thunder 90% of the time. Perhaps there's a reasonable explanation, but since SCS never comment on the 1.49 weather threads, we can only speculate. It's not game breaking, just a minor immersion breaking annoyance.oldmanclippy wrote: 07 Aug 2026 19:16 The point is that the high sunshower prevalence is a problem, otherwise SCS would consider it part of those "best photos"

Re: Wrong skyboxes during rain.
I would say it breaks rain for me. I just can't use it. Every time I try it just makes me mad that they let it remain in this state for so long.
