As you know windows is becoming worse and worse with every update. Lot of people are starting to become tired of it and look for something better.
So whats wrong with Windows ?
Claim that Windows 10 was last version of Windows back when Windows 10 released
Windows 11 system requirements
Removal of 32 bit support
Preinstalled bloatware
system components that you cannot remove no matter what (App installer, Store)
privacy nightmare
telemetery that you cannot turn off
forced windows updates you cant control
forced updates that breaks system
forced upgrades to newer version of windows (yes again)
Recall snapshots
Copilot AI
Recall
Agentic OS
Microsoft Edge and Microsoft Edge WebView cannot be removed since its essential part of Windows
Windows Defender is ALWAYS ON
Removal of newly added features (Windows subsystem for Android)
hard to change default apps (yes its still a issue)
Windows as a service
You have licence to use windows but you dont own windows
Microsoft Store exclusive games
In this forum treath feel free to talk about Linux and switching away from windows !

Re: Lets talk about Linux !
I switched because Window98 kept crashing and ID released a native Linux version of Quake3
Most games just work under Linux, main issue for simulator nerds is getting all your control devices working but situation is improving all the time, e.g. drivers for Moza and Cammus among some others are built in.
If you need head tracking then the Linux version of ATS/ETC don't support it so you'd need to run the dx version under proton. Running it that way gives better performance anyway than the OpenGL version.

I switched away from windows after i lost all my data including a high school bachelor degree i wrote. This was the last straw. I quit formated all my drivers install linux and never look back. i now on Arch Linux and enjoying every day with it. I can still play native ETS2/ATS on Linux without any problem. I can use my G29 without any problems i just plug it in and play. I still can use all paid software and games on Linux without any problem

Re: Lets talk about Linux !
I'm still planning on moving to Linux, but I have a metric ton of data I need to move around and format drives to proper Linux filesystem partitions to do so. And as an archiver of some anime I like... that is way easier said than done. I'm also looking at what distro to use, as there are a few I will absolutely avoid using for a lot of reasons I'm not going into on this forum.
And yes, while I'm aware that Linux does have some NTFS driver support for the Windows filesystem, I have also read that it's not fool-proof and that one really should format the drives when possible. I've also got to look into my wheel, getting it configured, my headset, microphone setup, TrackIR, etc... It's a lot I have to look into and just have not had any real time to do so for some personal reasons at this point.
The one distro that looks promising is CachyOS, which happens to be based on Arch Linux. Though, I'm no fan of Arch mainly due to its package manager. I'm more used to Debian, I have used DNF a few times, but pacman is just weird and doesn't operate at all in the same way. I think there's a frontend for it, just haven't looked yet. (funny enough, there is a frontend for aptitude that I managed to break somehow on my VPS lol...)

Yeah I'd be tempted to give Cachy a go but I'm lazy and used to using debian sid for the last 20 years or so.

Re: Lets talk about Linux !
I has been an on-off Linux user since 2010. I still have somewhere a CD with Ubuntu 10.04 that Canonical used to mail for free per request. But due to my PC and later laptops being quite low on hardware power, I always defaulted to Windows (XP, 7, 8.1, 10) to play the games with as little overhead as possible and with better drivers. However, I always had Linux in dualboot for specific tasks like education or work.
When I got to finally build a new PC a little over a year and a half ago, I already knew I won't be putting Windows on it. I was fully committed to run Linux full time, even picked components based on Linux performance. And that's what I do. 99% of my time with PC these days is on Linux, with only using Windows on an old laptop when I only need stuff like web browser and can't be bothered to reboot it to Linux.
I don't play games that require anticheat that doesn't work on Linux. I had some weird issues with games, like Elite Dangerous wasn't able to finish the loading, but over time they were fixed. Everything I play works. The only regret I have is the distro choice, I foolishly picked Pop_OS! and while I can change it, I don't want to go through all the hassle so I'm kinda stuck with it for now.
