Peterbilt's model 358 was a small but important evolution of the model 351, introducing a tilting hood to Peterbilt's lineup for the first time. This mod covers common production options from 1965 to 1972 - all the years from its introduction until just before the '1100' cab was introduced.

Maybe it's about time this gets its own thread. The next installment in my ongoing little-window Peterbilt project is the tilt-hood model 358.

So far, the aluminum hood is mostly complete. Next steps will be the later fiberglass hood, dual air cleaners, and some more polishing/expansion of accessory options (to be shared with the 351).

D'you reckon the fibreglass hood variant will include paintjobs that wrap around the top of the hood?

Will this come with the option to put a 359 cab on it?

I'm not sure what you're asking; The 359 didn't have its own cab. It did have a very different front end to accommodate wider radiators. It used the same Unilite cab as the 351/358 until the '1100' cab was introduced in 1972. All of the aforementioned used that later cab thereafter.

I guess the real question is whether I'll be doing a 359. Definitely the earlier 1967-1971 359 with the Unilite cab as I can reuse most of my work again. As for 1972+? We'll see. I have a lot of other things to finish/start before I get to that.

I guess what I'm trying to say is that I've seen some Peterbilt 358's that had the 1972+ cab on them. Either that or they were Peterbilt 359's with custom narrowed hoods on them.

358 production continued until 1976, so there was definitely a 3-4 year period at the end where they were made with the '1100' cab. For now I'm focused on just the 'little window' models, pre-1972.

Things slowed down a little while I was working on the Scot's latest update, and other 1.59 things. I've almost gotten back into my stride with the 358 now. There's a decent selection of air cleaners now, both dual and single. I've reworked the emblems to look much tidier, and continue to refine some of the detailing on the aluminum hood.

I've also started work on the fiberglass hood. The grill shell for it is mostly complete, with a number of options. I'm still working up to integrating the fenders properly: the sides + fender are meant to be one piece, all neatly filleted together with an additional detail where the side marker mounts onto the fender.
