I don't think that's wrong though, even with my car I can release the clutch (not too quick) with no throttle and it will happily chug along. The engine management system will try to keep RPM at idle speed.
Fair point but this now an "artificial aid" that wasn't present and as this thread show not really wanted and confusing. Hill Assist is optional this new mechanic wasn't really necessary, you drop the clutch in a multi tonne ruck it should stall. You don't even have to be gentle about it so basically any nuance of using a clutch properly is null there is no reward for driving manually properly it has well pretty much "dumbed it down" where it takes zero effort

It was possible to get the whole rig crawling just by carefully releasing the clutch all along, what’s new about this in 1.58?

You can just drop it, it just won’t stall.

They may have gone too far the other way but it was way too easy to stall. A 15 litre diesel shouldn't stall more easily than a 4 cylinder car.

In the previous version, the engines were indeed lacking low-end torque from a stop, especially on uphill takeoffs, and they would stall no matter how much throttle input was given. Using the parking brake was a must. Now low-end torque is good, some say too good, but my biggest gripe is the very soft manual shifting no matter how fast I drop the clutch. It shifts like an automatic. Maybe this was necessary to fix the low-end torque issue, but it goes to show the simulation needs more work.

Also comments from actual truck drivers tend to confirm you don't need throttle until clutch is engaged:

In a low gear, sure, but we shouldn't be able to take off with a load in 10th gear! I just tested it. As long as you give it enough throttle, you can take off in a very high gear. The manual shifting is very dumbed down now.

The gear splitter no longer works when I release the accelerator. With my 1.57 save file, there are no problems.

Yes I also have same issue engine not stalling if i don't use press clutch. in the latest update clutch is only for shifting gears, the gaming is going unrealistic 🙂

It works for me. Maybe some mods?
