Flagstaff Improvements to 1.58 update

#1 Post by robty96 » 14 Feb 2026 12:48

Flagstaff has been one of my favorite places in ATS before the 1.58 update. It had a great feeling of a real city with lots of depots, owned garage, International truck + repair shop, plus a dedicated repair shop and lots of other unusable but still quite lovely urban/commercial area scenery quite close next to each other. It had seven depots (Bitumen, Enterpriser, Apade, Venture, Eddy's, Gallon Oil and Plaster & Sons).

Now with the version 1.58 update, Flagstaff changed much and in my opinion definitely not to the good.

Flagstaff's feeling and look is much different now. The small city feeling is definitely gone.
Buildings stand alone and are spread out.
It consists of only 2 main streets now. Before it was a net of streets making it feel like a real city.
There is much more forest in and around Flagstaff now.
Instead of the previous 7 depots we only have 4 now (HMS, Enterpriser and two Farmer's Barn depots).
The player-owned garage is now out of the town, far away from the repair shop at the International truck dealer shop.
(looking at the fact that we still can't repair our trucks in our owned garages a big con - was a huge pro for the garage in Flagstaff before)
When coming from or driving to north heading Page or Kayenta, you had that nice railway crossing when you went on the motorway, which I miss much.

And yes, while I know that SCS might have shrinked Flagstaff in order to build Winslow and enhance Grand Canyon village and the way up to it, the change of Flagstaff is a bit much to me.

For me, Flagstaff was a gem before the 1.58 update. It provided the illusion of a real small town city. Now it lost almost everything of its prior feeling and attraction to me.
It is nice but not nearly as nice as it was before.

I wish that Flagstaff could be revamped to be at least a little more as it was before.

Just as an update. I actually reverted to version 1.57 and will keep it as long as possible just to have the old Flagstaff that I loved. Not because of all the new UI flaff that was added with 1.58, just because of the changed Flagstaff and surroundings.
At least until the next Halloween or Christmas event at the end of the year, forcing me to upgrade.

This might sound silly and foolish, but if you like a place in the game and/or you come up there and drive through it a lot or have your main garage there, then this specific place can have a decent value for a player. And I just liked Flagstaff as it were done in the first revamp
years ago. It was perfect.

I also love Holbrook with the Bushnell farm and the dirt roads which you need to drive over when departing (arriving as you like) as well. Holbrook with both, the city itself as well as the places east up the motorway) were completely vanished in the v1.58 update in order to get Winslow.

I don't want to say anything against the new places like Winslow but it just sucks that game updates decrease (like Flagstaff) or vanish places (like Holbrook), instead of adding new places only.

And yeah, I know I will have to update and just go with time sooner or later, but it hurts to see a good place go with an update.
Once I upgrade, I maybe will completely forget about Flagstaff and surroundings and focus my driver's life on a completely different place and area of the map.

Flagstaff looks so much better now then it did previously... SCS will not revert back.

Opinions are different about the look itself. I give it that.
But going by the amount of depots, repair shops, rest places/gas stations and streets, you can clearly see how Flagstaff shrinked immensively.

We had a depot for Bitumen, Enterpriser, Venture, Apade, Eddy's, one dedicated repair shop, the International truck dealer and our own garage all next to each other. Easy to be accessed. Then we had 2 gas stations, 2 rest places and a Plaster & Sons depot outside.

I personally like the new highway exit added, however the city has so much less to offer than before now. And I don't know why.

I'm not talking about a complete revert, but just give us the depots back we had before.

I think this might be an unfortunate consequence of more realistic and real life mapping techniques that ATS uses now, you’ll have to find another small town @robty96 because Flagstaff actually looks realistic now lol
