How about winter, then? Made an early morning run from the huge quarry at Rolla with some Excavated Soil which was wanted in St Louis. Perhaps it’s a key ingredient in Coca Cola?

Time to finish the IMPRESSIONS OF MISSOURI tour with one final journey from a jobsite I almost missed out – the dynamite depot in Joplin. No dynamite for me today though, sadly – we’re hauling waste paper to Columbia in the springtime.

It’s not very noticeable that it’s spring in Missouri, but the journey was still very pleasant.

Starting off a tour of Kansas today 1. Yep, it's time for some IMPRESSIONS OF KANSAS.

Entering Kansas from Guymon, Oklahoma.

This place is probably called Liberal.

Heading north from Liberal. I toured Kansas according to the state’s very simple grid pattern, starting in the south west and heading up the road leading north from the Oklahoma state line until the northern state line with Nebraska was reached, and then doing the same again but further east, until all of the ‘vertical’ roads were done. Then I did the same starting in the south with the ‘horizontal’ roads.

The road we’re currently on passes through Garden City and heads up to Colby. Approaching Garden City now. I imagine ziggurats towering above the plains, their walls overflowing with running water and lush green plants cascading downwards covered in flowers of every hue.

The reality is somewhat different, but still, the locals don’t have it too bad. What with this fine water park, Dorothy’s House in Liberal and the Archway bridge museum in Kearney, Nebraska a mere 240 miles drive away (perfect for school trips), this region is fair replete with excitement.

I actually made two drives from Guymon up to Garden City, not sure why now. Hence the two different trucks.

Farming, of course, is the main thing going on in Garden City.

This area with a very beige and arid look actually covers only a small part of the Kansas DLC – basically the Colorado border - as SCS have chosen to depict most of the state as being green, with plenty of trees. Fans of the mournful look had to wait for Nebraska to get more of that gloomy goodness.
