H-Shifter tachometer 50% slower than Real Automatic [FIXED]

#1 Post by DracoTorre » 03 Mar 2026 02:26

  • game version 1.58.1.4
  • OS: Windows 10 x64
  • reproduce: very high
  • game log:
    game.log_Tach.txt
When using Real Automatic configuration, tachometer movement rate and response appears normal having shift timing similar to real-life truck. When using H-Shifter configuration the tachometer movement is noticeably slower affecting shift timing, and when shifting too quickly an apparent lack of game feedback. Compared to prior game versions it's now much easier to "float" gears (no clutch) without grinding gears.

To make measuring the difference easier, configure truck with 10-speed transmission. Also to make timing easier, I did not use clutch -- "floated" the gears. During acceleration I used a stopwatch to find time from going into neutral--RPM falling--until entering next higher gear. Then found the average. When timing the Real Automatic, note the RPM of the gear change to replicate when using H-Shifter (without clutch). I timed gear changes between gears 6 and 9 (6-to-7, 7-to-8, and 8-to-9).

After repeating the process multiple times and taking an average, here is what I found:
  • Real Automatic up-shift (~400 RPM drop): 0.8 seconds
  • H-Shifter up-shift (~400 RPM drop): 1.2 seconds
  • H-Shifter "floating" up-shift allows putting into next gear about 200 RPM above match without gear-grind noises (in prior game versions, 100 RPM)
The Real Automatic configuration tachometer movement and response appears similar to a real-life truck, and the up-shift-timing closely matches a real-life truck. In H-Shifter configuration, the shift-timing is 50% slower than Real Automatic and a real-life truck.

Notes:

this is similar to report ("tachometer gauge too slow...") before realizing the difference between Real Automatic and H-Shifter configurations.

In game version 1.59.0.336 the tachometer appears to move about the same rate in Real Automatic and H-Shifter transmission configurations, both visually and comparing stop watch. I now find it much easier to shift with timing similar to real life for a more natural driving experience.

No QA-ID, so I have tagged the title as fixed.

Thank you very much!
