About Custom Hirable Driver

SCS as a company do not wish to have paid mods on this forum. While we understand that not all paid mods use the Intellectual Property of other companies/people, it is very hard to moderate what is and isn't acceptable when money is involved. There are also concerns that it could look unfavorable to potential work partners going forward if SCS allow mods that may potentially use unlicensed branding.
Posting in the Mods forum (ATS and ETS2) is restricted to sharing free-to-the-public mods and providing support for mods. For more details, please check the Forum Rules.

About Custom Hirable Driver

#1 Post by Joko_P » 25 May 2026 14:06

So, while learning on how to add new hirable drivers, I learnt that apparently their name is stored in locale.scs, and every language setting has their own .sii (which means if we want to be safe, we must make sure all .sii files from all languages must be 100% identical to each other). They're also arranged in array.

My question is, if I wanna add several new driver names, do we must add the names in this driver_names.sii file across all languages (essentially overriding the original driver_names.sii during loading up the game)?

Or is there a way to add custom names without override the loading of driver_names.sii file? What I meant is something like driver_names.<mod_id>.sii where it will contains our custom driver name and probably the same goes for their UI, instead of saving it in /material/ui/driver, we would save it in /material/ui/driver/<mod_id> (and for the small version, idk how that would work).

I do notice that for player company logo that is located in /material/ui/player_logo, we can actually add new one(s) instead of replacing an already existing logo. It seems like the way the game loads it is by reading any .mat files, and it will continue to .tobj, then to the .dds. So I wonder if for hirable driver name and avatar, is there an actual way to add custom ones or we essentially have to override the driver_names.sii?

Thank you in advance!
