Random Crashes

#1 Post by jeffs70x » 04 Jun 2026 22:26

Hiya. I'm hoping someone might be able to help solve the mystery of the constantly crashing game.

I installed ETS2 again last week via Steam after several years. I created a new driver profile. I haven't ever installed mods in the game. It's basic game only. No expansion DLC.

Everything was good for a couple of days. But I now encounter frequent crashes where the game will freeze, hang for a few seconds, then crash back to the desktop. If I can go 45 minutes without a crash I'm doing well. The most recent happened within minutes of starting the game. It doesn't appear to be linked to any truck, or any area of the map.

I've tried verifying the integrity of the game files on Steam. I've updated my Graphic Card drivers. I've changed graphics settings, testing different quality levels, and tinkered with different combinations of image scaling and AA. The only time I managed to drive for a fair amount of time without a crash was on the lowest graphics settings, or in SAFE mode.

Any help would be appreciated.

In your config file, change this back to the default of 10, since 1.59 higher values can cause stuttering and crashes:

00:00:03.527 : uset r_buffer_page_size "30"

Here are the possible fixes for that crash type (none guaranteed to work)

Change Scaling/TAA combination. NVIDIA does not like some combinations. (300%, SMAA+TAA crashing - 400%, TAA working)
Disable the NVIDIA overlay (can cause crash on launch as well)
Set "r_buffer_page_size" to "10" in your config file
Restart the game in safe mode to reset graphic settings
Uninstall and reinstall GPU driver
Reduce OC on GPU
Remove Snowymoon dlls
Disable the Trucky hub overlay
Restart your PC

My gfx card is a Radeon 7900 GRE, rather than anything NVidia. I updated my driver after the problem started. The card isn't overclocked.

I tried more combinations of scaling/TAA, and set the buffer page size back to 10. And I don't have any of the mods/dlls mentioned.

I always turned off VSync and reduced maximum frame rate to 60.

Unfortunately, I still have the same issue. Unless there are any other solutions it looks like I'm stuck with the issue.

Thanks for trying to help, though. Appreciated.
