Share your G27 steering wheel setup, please!

#1 Post by TurboJ » 01 Nov 2013 12:13

My new G27 wheel set is on the mail and I would appreciate some help so I could find the optimal setup for it as quickly as possible!

First of all, which setup features must be set on the Logitech software and which features in-game?

Furthermore;
-What setup are you using, what settings have made the steering and pedals feel 'just right'?
-How have you set your H-shifter or are you using the paddle shifters?
-How exactly does the gear splitter work on this game when you use a H-shifter?
-What about force feedback settings? Please help me get started on these :)

Also any other help that might be useful will be greatly appreciated.
I think this topic will be useful for other G27 users too, new and old.

I'm using this scheme :)

Steering sencitivity to max, non-linearity to min.
-How have you set your H-shifter or are you using the paddle shifters?

Steering sensitivity has no effect on steering wheels. At least not in my profile.

That said...

Nuff said?

EDIT: You will figure out how the splitter works.

But basically there are two buttons, Toggle 1 and Toggle 2. You select Hi/Lo split between odd and even gears and Hi/Lo range between gears 1-6 and 7-12.

From the official ETS 2 site, on the modding pages:
Range transmission
This is the default configuration used by the game. The "Shifter Toggle: 1" selects between gears set 1-6 and gear set 7-12.

Splitter transmission
The "Shifter Toggle: 1" selects between odd-numbered gears (1,3,5,7,9,11) and even-numbered (2,4,6,8,10,12) gears.

Range-Splitter transmission
This configuration tries to emulate a layout of a real Scania H-shifter. Note that the game does not simulate the second reverse gear nor the two crawling gears so corresponding positions are not used.

This case is a combination of both preceding transmission types where the "Shifter Toggle: 1" switches between gear ranges and "Shifter Toggle: 2" switches between splitted gears.

I suggest you get started on the "splitter" transmission first, it's the one most similar to a car. You can then try the range-splitter alternative.
Later on you may want to customize your H-shifter pattern. For instance, i am using the range-splitter but i have access to 16 gears, including 4 reverse gears.

And if you change the 'Degrees of Rotation' to 780 in stead of 900, you will have a 1 to 1 relationship between your steering wheel and the steering wheel on-screen.

But if you change your degrees of rotation as BHS suggest, you may want to up the steering non-linearity setting.

What exactly does the 'steering non-linearity' option do?

Not on steering wheels no...
Well, it sorta does but not in the same was as when driving with a keyboard or gamepad.

What it does is increases the response the more you turn your physical wheel. Leaving an area of fine control to make it feel right.

Nonlinear steering is terrible unrealistic :)

But i set nonlinearity for brake pedal in controls.sii:
config_lines[147]: "mix abackward `pow(normalize(sel(c_jzbrake, sel(c_jibrake, -j_brake?0, j_brake?0), sel(c_jibrake, j_brake?1 * -0.5 + 0.5, j_brake?-1 * 0.5 + 0.5)), c_brake_dz), 2)`"
