Re: what does scaling do ?
I don't get it: my scaling is set to 125% and my monitor is set to 1440x900. So in my case the game first renders the graphics in 1800x1125 and then renders it back to 1440x900? Then what is the difference in graphics if I set my scaling to 100%?

It will just render your 1440x900 with no extra steps.Vinnie Terranova wrote: ↑14 Nov 2017 14:35 Then what is the difference in graphics if I set my scaling to 100%?

Re: what does scaling do ?
the game renders the game internal with 25% more then you monitor can display this is rightVinnie Terranova wrote: ↑14 Nov 2017 14:35 I don't get it: my scaling is set to 125% and my monitor is set to 1440x900. after that it samples it back to your nativ resolution of 1400x900 but the game still renders it with 125% what results in a better image less flickering of borders
its nothing different then Super Sampling so you get better anti-aliasing ingame

Re: what does scaling do ?
As I added more mods, I find that I have to adjust my scaling from 400% downwards to keep my frame rates at an average over 30fps. I tried the vegetation mod along with all the Jazzy cat car/truck packs and a traffic mod that I modified even further. I find my sweet spot at 200%. My computer is also a workstation. My gpu is my weak link. Before I added any mods when NM was first released, I could run the game on high settings and at 400%. Adding the mods I like to run once they were updated to 1.29 and I had to back off the scaling.

Re: what does scaling do ?
Jazzycat's AI and trailers are generally IS the FPS killer. Most of mod trailers are unnecessarily crawling with useless faces you will never ever notice.
Let's put it that way, at any second in usually cities, avarage number of drawn faces are around 1.5 million AND that includes mirrors and such. Jazzy's single trailer avaraging from 75K to 500K alone (while SCS ones are around 20k). AI cars and trucks are around 75K to 150K each (while SCS ones are around 15K at best). And LOD's are basically same number of faces with a few parts removed. Now with increased traffic on latest updates, you are basically renting your GPU & CPU to these mods.
They are fine mods but require really high-end computers or dual cards. I would rather play without mods than reduce under 60 FPS. Due to astigmathism in my eyes, I'm really sensitive to motion and annoyed in any place that my FPS drop under 55.

Re: what does scaling do ?
I run 200% scaling and only real reason I do it is so I can more easily read the speedo's of the trucks, most of them are real hard to read, the DAF, and modern Volvo and maybe one more is good the rest are pretty bad... low res textures.
Harven's FLB is awesome in that regard, super easy to read the instruments. I've long since gotten used to reading speed off the "GPS" UI element, because thats the only way you reliably can read the speed properly... and I got glasses! :O
I used to run 400% but as the game has gotten bigger and the scenery gotten more fancy and more cars and what not, its gotten harder to get that sweet 60 fps solid in some areas, even at 200% in some places I'll go down to ~50 fps.

Re: what does scaling do ?
@murdoch, you could use the zoom feature to read the instrument cluster if your fov is more than 50°- 55° with the seat pushed back to its extent.
Its the same as Nvidia DSR, google for more infoVinnie Terranova wrote: ↑14 Nov 2017 14:35 I don't get it: my scaling is set to 125% and my monitor is set to 1440x900. Re: what does scaling do ?
I use zoom for backing up a trailer and for the instrument panel myself regardless of scale.
@SiSl. Thanks for the input on Jazzycat's mods. That is a huge difference. The probablem for me though is that I at the least need those real company trailers in the game. It is the single most necessary mod for me. That mod makes the game American for me. Those fake trailers are just annoying to me. The box truck mod is great as well. I could do without the car pack though but the motorcyle is cool to have. I am okay with SCS's so I cold remove it if it makes a drastic change. I assumed that all Jazzycat is doing with the trailers is just skinning them though.
24fps is what the human eye can see as seamless. But 30fps has been the target for years. Higher than that and the human eye can't distinguish. The rate will be smoother yes, and less jumps occur but the eye can't tell otherwise. Before adding jazzycat's mods, I was at 60fps. My rates dropped down to 19-25 at 400%, all settings at high detail and with all the traffic mods from Jazzycat. Without dropping the detail level from high to medium, I tweaked my settings to get the rates to 32-45 and I am okay at 200%. 200% does it and 300% takes me to 20-28fps.

Re: what does scaling do ?
24fps & 30 fps is only urban myths mate.
The fact that we are enough with 24 fps or 30 fps in "movies" , because some of these frames are motion frames, you know the ones like looks blurry on motion when you pause it. In games there are no such blurry motions frames. So our eyes can detect any jump from frame to frame. TV sets can (which are 5+ ms response rate) compansate between frames to make more blurry motions, but certainly low response rate monitors do not.
